Col. Beach then discussed the meaning of students rights, and he discussed the three different levels of rights: federal, state, and local and university.  He added that the Committee needs communicate and educate the students at least on a monthly basis.  He also spoke about the importance of community policing.

Dr. Pierson then stated that he had recently met with Mrs. Sally Thompson, who serves on the Farmville Town Council.  He stated that she is always in communication with the University on issues, and she also sits on a committee to interview and make recommendations for a new Chief of Police for the Town of Farmville.  Dr. Pierson stated that she is very interested in the Committee’s operations.

Jordan then brought up the meeting schedule and the frequency of such meetings.  It was agreed that the Joint Committee shall meet monthly, with the leadership of the Committee meeting as needed.  It was agreed to meet on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 in the afternoon, depending on the student committee member’s schedules.
