V.      Approval of Agenda

a.       Senator Crute made a motion to move “Confirmation of Senate Appointments” from special orders of the day to line item E under New business. (motion passes)

VI.    Special Orders of the Day

a.       Oath of Office

                                                              i.      Led by Cameron Patterson- President Cameron Patterson led the oath to all senators. 

b.      Presentation of the Cup

                                                              i.      Brandon Fry presented the cup to Treasure Fidler for his tremendous work on paying all bills on time for the upcoming year.

VII.  Open Forum

a.       Cameron Patterson-Describes Open Forum to Senate

                                                              i.      President Patterson asked the Senate “How did move-in go?”

1.       Webmaster Martin- Move-in was smooth, police service was great.

a.       Bookstore went great

b.      Best freshman class in his opinion

c.       Eating establishments

                                                                                                                                      i.      Moe’s was great, chickfila was an upset because of the Express and not having a full menu

2.       Senator Jones- Food on campus is getting too expensive- Moe’s Raising Prices

3.       Senior Class President Jarrett- Traffic was very confusing during move in wrapping around campus

4.       Senator Smith- Freshmen didn’t know where Moe’s and Chickfila were

a.       Move-in was smooth

5.       Senator Hoyt- Why are sophomores on the tenth and fifth floor of Curry and Frazier when freshmen are living on the second floor?

6.       Senator Holl- Addresses that student with commuter parking ride the FAB because there is not enough parking on campus.

a.       Cam Patterson’s response- Chief Beach is very concerned with this matter because of the construction on campus.  They are building more student parking where the old Wynn building use to sit.  This parking lot will hold 150 vehicles.  There will also be 130 additional parking spots behind the Landings if the real estate foundation finds the money to build the lot. 

7.       Printing issue

a.       New and returning students are upset about the new printing policy and how students have to pay for their printing on campus. 

VIII.            Orders of the Day

a.       Executive Report- Cameron Patterson

                                                              i.      University Updates

1.       Budget- Tim Kane announced a 1.5 billion budget cut from the state budget. Longwood must provide budget cuts to the state. Dr. Cormier does not want to affect faculty and staff employment.  Stimulus money will sustain us until economy comes around. 

2.       H1N1- H1N1 (Swine) is a major risk at Longwood. SGA will assist Health and Wellness informing students of prevention techniques.  This is a vaccine for the H1N1 virus, CDC is deciding if college campuses will be provided these shots.  SGA did pay for Flu shots this year.

a.       Sophomore Class President Abshire- Will Health and Wellness come to different organization and give the shots?

                                                                                                                                  iii.      Webmaster Martin- H1N1 prevention tips  on the SGA Website and through WMLU

                                                                                                                                   iv.      If you are sick stay home and isolate yourself from your peers until you are fever free for 24 hours.

                                                                                                                                     v.      Cupitt- Is there isolated Housing for those who receive H1N1

1.       Working with RCL

                                                                                                                                   vi.      Odom- Rooms are available but RCL wants people to go home before using the isolation rooms.

a.       Legislative Affairs /Virginia 21

b.      Crute- Sept 22 and October 6 Voter Registration

c.       Two lobby days throughout the year

a.       Nominations for Executive Senator

                                                            ii.      Lizzie Holl- not accepted.

b.      Approval of Constitutions

1.       Episcopal Campus Ministries

a.       Sophomore Class President Abshire- the Club is linked with Hamden Sydney College (HSC) and Longwood University.

                                                                                                                                      i.      President Patterson Commented about how they will be registered at Longwood and at HSC.

b.      Senator Hoyt- Do you think that they will request money?

                                                                                                                                      i.      President Patterson commented that the SFC will use their best judgment in allocations if necessary and that there are sections in our SFC bylaws they talk about funding a religious organization.

                                                                                                                                    ii.      Motion was passed

2. Fierce- Dance Team

                                        a. Webmaster Martin- Do we need a second dance team?

                                        b. Senator Jones- Blue heat is strict gives more diversity.

                                        c. Senator Holl encourages another dance team

                                        d. Motion- passes

c.       Sports Club Council (SCC)

                                                              i.      Next week SCC will come to senate.

1.       3-4 years ago SCC was formed. They requested to allocate their own money to their clubs.  They feel that they have a better representation and experience when it comes to allocating money. A SGA representative will sit on the SCC.

d.      SFC Report- Treasurer Shawn Fidler

                                                              i.      First Meeting this Thursday at 7 in the Amelia Room

e.      Confirmation of Senate Appointments

                                                              i.      Senator Crute- IN accordance with the Code of Virginia section n 2.23712 I move to enter into closed session to discuss personnel matters relating to appointments of the Senate.  In accordance with the Code of Virginia only matters relation to Senate appointments will be discussed. The outcome of the discussion that is has during the closed session will be made public in the minutes and announced by the Vice President once we return to open session. Do I have a second for this motion?

1.       Motion was seconded and passed.
